Mental health wards to relaunch being “smokefree”

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust has been smoke-free as a Trust since October 2016. However during the pandemic, our smokefree restrictions were relaxed on our mental health wards, with some exceptions, while still supporting and encouraging smokefree environments.

From Monday 9 January 2023, smoking will again not be permitted on site anywhere at LPT for staff, patients and visitors. This includes all buildings, gardens and grounds.

However, vaping will be permitted, but in gardens and outside spaces only.

In addition to this, the LPT Smokefree service across acute inpatient services within DMH will support our inpatients who want to either quit or abstain from smoking.

Support will include free NRT and vapes as well as one-to-one and/or group support. On discharge, the service will support patients to connect with continued stop smoking support from community providers.

Our LPT Smokefree service consists of two smoke free advisors and a service lead who will work with patients and staff to support patients during their stay.
