LPT’s approach to infection prevention and control (IPC) has been given a seal of approval from NHS England inspectors.
We were rated as “green” following a recent visit, up from a previous rating of “amber”.
The inspectors found that all areas were clean and tidy, all staff were wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, infection prevention and control posters were up to date in all areas, and bin collections had been increased fourfold across all areas.
The team visited inpatient areas at the Evington Centre and Agnes Unit, both in Leicester, on October 14.
Allison Heseltine, assistant director of nursing and quality for NHS England and NHS Improvement Midlands Region, said she saw “continued improvements” which would be sustainable.
She noted positive developments, including:
- Daily checklists to ensure all appropriate Covid prevention measures were in place;
- High standards of cleanliness for mattresses and cushions;
- Our “dump the junk” campaign to clear away clutter;
- Doubling the number of colleague vaccinators to improve flu vaccination take-up among staff; and
- A myth busting campaign, which was also aimed to improve flu vaccine rates.
The report will be considered at a future meeting of the LPT Board.
Anne Scott, director of nursing, AHPs and quality for LPT, said: “I am delighted that we have been rated green for infection prevention and control, which is fundamental in our commitment to providing safe, high quality care.
“I am proud of our staff, who have been recognised for their hard work in infection prevention and control while dealing with the pandemic.
“I am particularly pleased that the inspectors recognised the improvements were sustainable, and I am confident that our staff will work to ensure we continue to meet the high standards we have reached.”
