Capturing the experiences of our patients
Patient Stories are brief descriptions of what people say about our services. They might be about good or bad care you, your relative or friend received. Please tell us your patient story so we can use it to help us when we provide care for other people.
Patient stories are a continuous improvement tool which help identify areas where we need to improve the quality of services and transform patient and carer experience, through listening and learning from the patient voice.
Patient stories can be positive, negative, or combine elements of both. Through patient stories we capture evidence of the quality of services, share the learning about what was good and what needs to be improved with the clinical teams, who then take forward any improvements identified together.
Why do we capture patient stories?
A patient story is a rich source of feedback because it provides a detailed account of what the person experienced at different points of their healthcare journey.
Unlike patient surveys, patient stories can be filmed face-to-face with the person, recorded remotely as a digital story, or you may wish to use our patient story submission form to share your story with us. If you wish to share your story but would like to remain anonymous we will not share your personal details with the service you are sharing your story about.
Because a story captures the person’s experiences from their point of view, it helps put us in your shoes to focus on what matters most to you.
The idea is to gain an understanding of the healthcare experience of the storyteller. Collectively, stories can help us build a picture of what it is like to be a service user receiving care and treatment from us, or how a carer or relative feel about their loved one’s care and treatment.
