At LPT we have two types of research nurse roles:
  • Clinical research nurse
  • Clinical academic nurse

Clinical research nurse (research delivery)

A vital role in delivering clinical research, and ultimately improving patient care and treatment pathways. In addition to providing and coordinating clinical care, clinical research nurses have a central role in assuring participant safety, maintenance of informed consent, integrity of protocol implementation, accuracy of data collection and recording, and appropriate follow up.

Clinical academic nurse (nurse researcher)

A dual role as a clinician and a health researcher. The role enables clinical experience to inform research ideas so that research is based on the needs of the patients and therefore grounded in clinical care.

A researcher immersed in a clinical setting is an excellent position to identify what research questions matter to the patient or service user, the NHS and to the profession.

Clinical academic nurses are nurses who are on a clinical academic trajectory and who are trained or working towards a doctoral (PhD/Professional Doctorate) qualification.
